North Eastern National Polytechnic (NENAP) was established in 1983 to address the urgent need for quality technical and vocational education in the North Eastern region of Kenya. What began as a small training centre has grown into a fully accredited national polytechnic.
Located at Innovation Campus, Garissa Township, NENAP serves thousands of students from across North Eastern Kenya and beyond, offering diploma, certificate, and short course programmes across 9 active departments.

The Principal of North Eastern National Polytechnic provides overall strategic leadership, academic direction, and administrative oversight of the institution. The Principal is responsible for the day-to-day management of NENAP and reports directly to the Board of Governors.
The Principal also serves as the National Chair of Education & Training, Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) — a prestigious national role that reflects the institution's standing and the Principal's recognized expertise in technical and vocational education across Kenya. In this capacity, the Principal plays a key role in shaping national policy, curriculum frameworks, and training standards for technical institutions countrywide.
Under the current leadership, NENAP has continued to grow its academic programmes, improve infrastructure, strengthen industry partnerships, and enhance the quality of technical and vocational education delivered to students across North Eastern Kenya.
The Principal chairs the Academic Board and the Senior Management Team, ensuring that the institution's strategic goals are implemented effectively across all departments. Through active engagement with national bodies such as KATTI, the Principal ensures that NENAP remains aligned with national education priorities and industry demands, positioning the institution as a leading centre of excellence in technical and vocational education in the region.
NENAP is governed by a Board of Governors appointed in accordance with the TVET Act 2013. The Board provides strategic oversight and policy direction for the institution.

NENAP's administration is structured to deliver efficient academic and operational management across all departments and offices.
Oversees all academic programmes, curriculum development, quality of teaching, and coordination with TVETA and KNEC.
Manages institutional budgets, procurement, payroll, human resources, and all general administrative functions.
Each of NENAP's 11 departments is led by a qualified Head of Department responsible for academic delivery, staffing, and departmental performance.
Responsible for student welfare, discipline, accommodation, co-curricular activities, and the overall student experience at NENAP.
Registry, Admissions, ICT, Library, and Support Services offices coordinate the day-to-day operations supporting all students and staff.
